REWARD ACTIVITIES
Overview
Reward activities recognize students who demonstrate positive engagement in academics, attendance, and behavior. Staff are responsible for monitoring and communicating eligibility.
Student Status Definitions
- Full-Time Student: A student enrolled in at least five (5) classes at Ephraim Middle School, with at least two (2) of those classes being Math, Science, or English.
- Part-Time Student: An EMS student who does not meet the criteria for full-time enrollment (see Full-Time Student). Part-time students are not eligible for reward activities or grade-level field trips.
Eligibility Criteria
Only full-time students may qualify for reward activities. To be eligible, a student must:
- Have all grades at C- or higher in every class and
- Meet at least one of the following two criteria during the quarter:
- Attendance: No more than 4 absences in the quarter. Note: 3 tardies in any class equals 1 absence.
- Discipline: No more than 1 office referral for the quarter.
Disciplinary Review Process
- Students with multiple office referrals or any referral deemed a safe school violation will be reviewed by administration.
- Administration may remove students from reward activities at their discretion, even if other criteria are met.
Staff Responsibilities
- Use grade and attendance records to determine preliminary eligibility.
- Report discipline data to administration for review as needed.
- Communicate eligibility status to students and families.
- Refer questions or appeals to administration.
Rationale
This policy promotes academic achievement, attendance, and positive behavior. Staff are expected to implement it consistently and fairly.
