MES Community Council Meeting Notes

Date: September 23, 2025
Attendance: Mr. Ipson, Megan Fawcett, Rene Barlow, Heidi Stiltson, Tresa Hanks, Heather Pyper, Kenyon Ward

Member Excused: Fawntell Mogle

1. Introduction of New Staff Members

  • New staff at MES were introduced.

2. Summer Projects & Maintenance

  • Reviewed all maintenance and projects completed during the summer- playgrounds, student restrooms, carpeted wall updates.
  • Discussed ongoing projects, including staff bathroom renovations.

3. MES 2025–2026 Theme

  • The theme announced: “Let Joy Lead the Way.”  Each council member was given a copy of the book, The Happiness Advantage.

4. Council Member Training

  • Reviewed Trustlands policies from the official website.
  • A Google Slide provided by USBE was presented to train members.
  • Discussed the purpose of the Trustlands program and how funding may be utilized.
  • Reviewed responsibilities of the School Community Council:
    • Who may vote and how decisions are made.
    • Principal’s responsibilities.
    • Rules of order.
  • Noted: All agendas, minutes, etc. will be posted on the school website.
  • Trusland Plan 
  • Council will review school data to identify greatest academic needs.
  • Based on findings, action plans will be created.
  • Funding allocations will be determined according to these priorities.
  • Goals will be established to track progress.

6. Rules of Order & Procedures

  • Reviewed proposed Rules of Order.  The rules of order needed to be updated to be compliant with new expectations.  The council reviewed the draft copy and a vote was taken to approve the new rules of order.
  • Motion to approve rules of order:
    • Motion by Megan, seconded by Heather.
    • Vote: Passed unanimously.

8. Election of Officers

  • Motion for Megan Fawcett as Council Chair:
    • Nominated by Heidi, motion by Heather, seconded by Tresa.
      Megan elected as Chair, passed unanimously.
  • Motion for Heidi Stiltson as Council Vice Chair:
    • Nominated by Megan, motion by Heather, seconded by Megan.
    • Heidi, elected as Vice Chair, passed unanimously.
  • Motion for Tresa Hanks as Secretary:
    • Motion by Heather, seconded by Rene.
    • Tresa, elected as Secretary, passed unanimously.

9. District Wellness Policy

  • Mr. Ipson reviewed each item in the school’s wellness policy.
  • Council acknowledged compliance; Mr. Ipson initialed each item.

10. Agenda items not discussed during this meeting due to time constraints will be moved to a later agenda.

10. Next Meeting

  • Scheduled for November 5th at 1:00 PM.

  • Motion to dismiss by Heather, seconded by Heidi.
  • Vote: Passed unanimously.
